At press, Halloween is upon us. While you may have missed the boat on this October’s Friday the 13th tradition of getting tattooed (it’s a thing) the season of “All Hallows Eve” gives you another excuse to get tattooed. And if you love this time of the year you may as well get one that pays homage to what’s become a favorite festive day for many Canadians. But instead of the usual pumpkin and horror themed concepts we thought we’d look are more subtle examples of Halloween tattoos that you may use to inspire your own. Let’s have a look at a few from the Sleight of Hand portfolio!

5 Design Ideas that Work as Subtle Halloween-Themed Tattoos

Fierce Beasts of Mother Nature

There’s no need to tap into the disturbed minds of Rob Zombie, Wes Craven, and the like when choosing a design that features a creature that strikes terror in the hearts of all who may come across one. Mather Nature has already taken care of that. Look no further than the forests near you for inspiration. For example, here in BC there are fierce wolves (and bears) that roam the mountains and plains that you would never want to come across. This design (the wolf) also works well for those who want to convey a sense of independence.

You may even consider skull versions, which makes any form of wildlife look more beastly.

Skulls & Roses

Skulls may be obvious Halloween tattoo concepts. However, when you contrast them with things of beauty such as roses or other flowers you enjoy something especially impactful.

Medieval Door Knocker

Medieval door knockers have been used as gatekeepers to homes and other places of importance over the centuries. For instance, sanctuary (as they ere called) door knockers found on cathedrals promised 37 days of asylum to criminals and refugees who used them to request entry. Meanwhile, fierce lion knockers (dating back to the 1100s) symbolized bravery, protection, strength, and nobility. These eerie gatekeepers work great as Halloween tattoos and also represent a warning to think carefully before approaching you with any sort of unwelcome drama.
