TATTOO REQUIREMENTS

To book a tattoo you must meet the following requirements. The client getting the tattoo must be 18 years of age or older (17 years old with a parent or guardian present). Ensure that you have one piece of current, government-issued photo ID to provide on your day of appointment.

Artists charge per piece, with a minimum cost of $100 for an extra small size tattoo. Deposits will be taken at time of booking to secure your spot.

THE DAY OF YOUR TATTOO

One of the most popular questions we get is “how do I prepare for a tattoo?” Here are a few tips to help make your appointment an enjoyable one.

  1. Eat a hearty, nutritious meal 1-3 hours before getting tattooed. This will keep your body energized, giving you more stamina for the session. Protein in particular helps your body heal.
  2. Bring snacks! As with sports, your body might experience both adrenaline rushes and fatigue. Having a snack and a drink during breaks will keep your body hydrated and replenish your energy. Water, juice, granola bars, and candy are great options.
  3. Do not drink alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment. Being hungover for a tattoo can be a horrible experience, and can cause your body to bleed more.
  4. DO NOT shave the area. Your artist will do this when you arrive. Shaving hours or days before a tattoo can result in razor burn or ingrown hairs. If any of these occur you may need to reschedule, as it can affect the stencil and tattoo application.

THE NEXT 48 HOURS

Once the artist has completed your tattoo, he or she will clean the area and apply Second Skin or a tattoo bandage. A fresh tattoo is the most vulnerable to infection, fading, and fallout, so it’s important to adhere to your artist’s recommendations. Each tattoo requires different aftercare that’s dependent on skin type, plus the location and style of tattoo. With that said, the most common rules for a new tattoo are to keep it completely out of direct sunlight and to keep it as dry as possible (do not submerge under water).

SHORTTERM AND LONGTERM AFTERCARE

After a few days your tattoo will become dry and itchy. This is when you can apply an unscented lotion over your tattoo (unless your artist says otherwise – always follow your artist’s advice to the letter). Just a thin layer once or twice a day is all you need. Too much lotion may affect the healing of your tattoo. SOH carries lotions and aftercare products, so make sure to grab one after your appointment. For longterm care of your tattoo, always use sunscreen when outside to prevent fading.
